Joe works, trains and lives in the beautiful Flint Hills of Kansas at 2UW Brush Creek Ranch. Though he has lived in quite a few places in the Midwest, Joe has always been drawn to Kansas, plus his son, Preston, and grandson lives in Abilene, Kansas. Preston is the head trainer at Preston Ammann Performance Horses, specializing in cutting horse training. Joe also has a daughter, Jasmine, who lives in Arkansas.
Joe grew up on a ranch in South Dakota. His parents, Merlyn and Sharon Ammann, married in 1962 at the age of 19, and soon they bought their own ranch in Wilmot, South Dakota. It became a great place to raise a family. Joe started riding two-year olds for his father at the age of 9 and that is when he grew to love horses.
An old adage says that a good rider can hear
his horse speak and a great rider can hear
his horse whisper.
